“Life is hard.  I don’t how else to say it.  It is just hard.  I sometimes have a hard time getting past my emotional response to life.  I feel like everything that happens around me is my fault and I need to fix it.  And if I can’t, then that makes me a failure.  A failure at the journey of life,’ sighed Heather.  ‘I just question myself so often that it can dictate what I do because I’m so scared of what people think of me over what I want to do that I do things for others over what I want.”

“People can have unintended influences on others.  But the key is to have the courage to tell them that you are you and their opinion of what you should be is not what you want to happen in your own life,” stated Victoria, Heather’s therapist.

“I don’t know if I can do that.  It is hard for me to tell people what I want because I don’t want to get them angry.  I just don’t want to have a conflict with them,” stated Heather as she looked at Victoria, who’s looks was the girl next door type with auburn hair, her serious brown eyes  and empathetic presence gave her serious respect as a therapist.

“Try.  To end this session I am giving you some homework.  This week I want you to say ‘no’ to someone who asks a lot of you.  Whether or not it is reasonable, I want you to just tell them ‘no’.  You’ll be surprised how they will respond,” said Victoria.

Sighing again, Heather said, “Ok, I’ll ty to do that.  Thanks Doc for listening to me complain about my life today.”

Smiling, Victoria said, “That’s what I’m here for.  Now I will see you the same time next week, and I want to hear all about your week.”

“Ok,’ said Heather as she stood up.  ‘I’ll see you next week Doc.”

“See you next week Heather. I really do look forward to seeing you again,” said Victoria, standing up and leading Heather out of the office.

“Thanks Doc,’ said Heather as she walked out of the clinic.  ‘See you again next week.”

Getting into her car, Heather started the car and drove off towards her 1-bedroom apartment in downtown Seattle.  Arriving at her assigned parking space about 15 minutes later, Heather stopped the car and took the key out of the ignition.  Getting out of her car she looked at her watch, it read 7:19 pm.  Sighing, Heather looked around the garage absently, finding no one else in the garage she walked towards the elevator that would connect her to her floor.  Pressing the up button on the elevator Heather looked out of the entrance of the garage, since it was December and living in Seattle, Heather saw that it was dark out; the sun had set just before her therapist session had started at 6 pm.  The ding of the elevator brought Heather back from la-la land and she walked into the elevator.

A moment later the elevator opened up on the 3rd floor and Heather got off, walking to her right.  Hearing her phone ring a few steps away from the elevator, Heather pulled it out of her pocket and answered, “Hello”.

“Hey Sis!  I was just wondering if you were able to make it this weekend to our parent’s 45th wedding anniversary,” asked the male voice on the phone.

“Hi, Richie.  And Yes I will be there I just have to make a stop at work that morning before I make my way over to your place for the party,” responded Heather.

“Ok, I still expect to see you there.  I don’t want to get a call from you saying that you were caught up at work.  They are our parents and I expect that you will show them a little more respect than a phone call saying that you are ‘so proud’ of them for making it to their 45th wedding anniversary,’ said Richie.  ‘That’s not how it’s supposed to happen.  You are supposed to show up and take time out of your busy day to say ‘I love you’ to our parents.”

Stepping up to her apartment door, Heather said, “God! I’ll be there Richie.  Don’t have a fit or anything.  I’m not ungrateful ya know.”

“Sometimes it does seem that way when you wrap yourself up in your work,” stated Richie.

“Fuck you Richie.  I’ll be there whether or not you believe me.  I still love our parents,” responded Heather as she took her keys out of her pocket and put the house key into the lock and unlocked the front door.

“Whatever, just be there,” responded Richie, hanging up.

“What an Ass Hole!” said Heather as she slammed the phone down onto the kitchen table.  She stomped to her bedroom annoyed that her brother was able to get under her skin like that.

Jumping onto her bed, Heather pushed her face into her pillow, wanting to cry.  Seconds later tears started to flow from her overwhelming sadness.  All she wanted was to have her brother to treat her as an adult human being.

Heather cried for nearly ten minutes before the land-line phone rang.  Whipping away her tears, and mascara, Heather answered the phone.

“Hello,” said Heather.

“Hey girl, wanna go out tonight?  Nancy and I are going to ‘The Rave’ tonight and wanted to invite you to come along,” said Carrie.

“Hi Carrie, I think that will hit the spot after the day I have had.  When do you plan on being there?”  responded Heather.

“We are going to be there around 9 o’clock tonight.  I hope to see you there,” responded Carrie.

“I’ll be there before you two are,” jibed Heather as she hung up the phone.

Running to her bedroom, Heather ransacked her closet.  She tried to find the perfect outfit for attending ‘The Rave’, an emo themed club, on a Tuesday night.

After about 15 minutes, Heather found a costume that she wore a few years ago that would go perfectly for the club.  It was a very short black silk dress that had spaghetti straps and fake black wings attached to the back of the dress.  It was intended to make the wearer the ‘sexy fallen angel’ for the dress upped parties for Halloween.  Pulling the costume out of the closet she walked up to the full length mirror and put the dress in front of her to look to see if it would go well with her body and the looked she had in her head.  Smiling, Heather thought to herself that the dress still went well with her dark black hair and body.  “I’ll definitely pull this off,” smiled Heather.

Taking her time to put the dress on, Heather hummed to herself, smiling about the fact that she would be able to relieve some of her stress from the day tonight by hanging out with the girls.  Doing her make-up right, blacking her nails and toes, putting on a necklace with a clear and black crystal in its center, and put on black 3” heels to complete the outfit, Heather walked out of her apartment at 8:30 pm, the full moon had already risen, giving almost an eerie day-like feel to her surroundings.  Not thinking much of this Heather waved down a cab.  Getting into the cab she told the cab driver the address of “The Rave” and they were off to her destination.

The cab pulled up to the club nearly 10 minutes later.  “Thanks buddy,” said Heather as she handed him the tab and got out of the cab.  Looking around, Heather didn’t see her friends anywhere.

“Hey! Hey, Heather, over here.  We’re over here,” said a voice coming from Heather’s left.

Looking to her left, she saw her friend standing in the somewhat short line to enter “The Rave”; it was Nancy Ravensdorf.  Nancy was the tallest of her friends, standing at a very leggy 6’ 2” tall slender frame to Heather’s 5’ 8” athletic but medium frame, Nancy’s brown hair hung down to her shoulders and her brown puppy dog eyes could melt almost any guy’s heart.  Nancy wore a long black Jersey Dress and had her brown hair held up in a ponytail.

Walking up to her, Heather said, “Hey Nancy.  I thought I was the first one here for a moment.  What’s going on?”

“Not much.  I love your outfit it is so ‘emo’.  I wish I had something in my closet that could fit perfectly in to this club.  I actually kind of like coming her to meet new people.”

Smiling, Heather said, “As if!  You’re the one that guys drool over since you are so tall.  I’m just your average dark haired girl.  Plus, this old getup is from Halloween a few years ago, when I went to a party as a ‘dark angel’.  I’m surprised it still fits me.”

“Heather, you’re hot!  What are you talking about?  You’re hotter than I am,” responded Nancy with a smile.

Blushing, Heather just smiled.

“Come on girl.  We still have to get into this club. I bet together we can get into this club easily,” said Nancy.

“Nancy, with you around I’m sure we won’t have a problem getting in,” said Heather.

Both friends laughed at each other.  The moments passed with both Heather and Nancy talking to each other in a small talk way, laughing and catching up with each other.

Just before they were first in line, Nancy noticed, out of the corner of her eye, someone across the street.  Something drew her to this man.  Looking at him she saw that he was a very handsome man, he had a certain swag about him that made him very mysterious.  She saw a man with short brown hair, piercing green eyes, by her guess his height was about the same as hers; his natural athletic tone body was accented by his blue jeans and V-neck black undershirt.  Yet, his skin seemed to be milky smoothed white, something like a marble white but easy to the touch.

“…Nancy?  Are you ok?  What’s going on Nancy?’ asked Heather in mid-sentence.  Looking at Nancy in confusing for a moment, Heather realized that she was staring across the street.  Looking in the same direction she saw the same man that Nancy was looking at, he seemed Heather to have a certain type of old-school type of sexiness.  Feeling lured by this man Heather wanted to go to him, blinking her eyes several times the connection to the man ceased.  Looking back at Nancy, she saw that Nancy still looked entranced by this mysterious man.  ‘Nancy! Snap out of it,” stated Heather as she snapped her fingers in front of Nancy’s eyes.

With no response Heather yelled, “Nancy.”  Heather slapped Nancy across her left check.

“Ouch,’ responded Nancy, coming out of her trance, holds her left cheek with her left hand as she gave a dirty look in Heather’s direction.  ‘Why did you do that?”

“Because you were staring at some strange man across the street,” said Heather.

“Well he was cute.  Can I help it if I stare?” responded Nancy.

“No, Nancy.  You weren’t just staring at some cute guy you were somehow drawn to him, like he was telepathically calling you to him.  It was as if…” said Heather.

“Hey girls, how’s it going?  Am I fashionably late?” said a feminine voice.

Heather looked to her left, Nancy looked to her right.  They both saw Carrie walking up with an all-black short sleeved, short ruffled Lolita Dress.  Her make-up, an all-white ensemble, accented her shoulder length red hair and small frame.  Standing at 5’ 5” she was the shortest of the group but was most definitely the ‘leader’ of the group or any room that she walked into to.

“Hey Carrie,” said Heather.

“Hi,’ said Nancy.  ‘What’s going on?”

“Not much.  Just looking for a good time with my good friends,” said Carrie.

“Well then just be on time next time will ya?  So we don’t have to worry about you,” responded Heather.

“Come on girl!  How else can I make an entrance than to be late,” responded Carrie.

Giggling, Heather responded by saying, “Fine be that way.  Just let us worry.”

“I’ll be that way then,” smiled Carrie.

“Girls, let’s stop teasing each other and focus on getting into this club,’ said Nancy.  ‘By the way, Carrie you look great, you outfit goes really well with this club’s theme.”

“Thanks, Nancy.  Was going for the theme of the place,” said Carrie.

“Girls are you ready to come in or should I let the people behind you in?” said the club’s bouncer.

“Ok, we’re coming in,’ said Carrie.  ‘Don’t have to get your panties in a wad.”

The three friends entered the club and went directly to the bar.  It took them several minutes to get the attention of the bar tender and order their drinks.  Turning around with their drinks they looked around to listen to the overly loud various forms of Metal playing soundtrack.

“The music is pretty good.  But I want to dance,” said Nancy.

“Well good luck finding a guy here who is taller than you Nancy,” gibed Carrie.

“Ha ha, Carrie.  Height isn’t everything,” snidely responded Nancy.

“Enough, you two; or else we won’t be able to meet people while we are here,” said Heather.

“Over there.  What about him Nancy?  He’s cute,” said Carrie.

The three of them looked over to the other side of the club.  They saw a man who looked to be about 24 or 25 years old talking to a buddy of his.  It was obvious that his hair was dyed black, and he wore white make-up on his face, and took the time to make sure that his clothes were entirely black, tight, and leathery.  But he looked to be about six feet tall and kept his body in shape.

“Oh, he’s cute,” said Nancy.

“Go talk to him Nancy.   I bet you can get at least several dances with him,” said Heather, smiling.

“I’ll bet you two that I can at least get him to dance with me for at least five songs,” challenged Nancy.

“Three,” said Carrie.

“Four,” said Heather.

“What does the winner get?” said Nancy.

“The winner gets ten bucks from the two losers,” said Carrie.

“Agreed,” said Nancy.

Heather nodded her agreement to the bet.

“Well then, I need to get my ‘thing’ on then,” said Nancy as she walked away from her friends and towards the man.

Walking up to the man Nancy said, “Excuse me, but I would really like to dance with you.  I think you are just to die for.  Would you dance with me?”

Looking Nancy up and down the man said, “Sure thing hot stuff.”

Leading her out to the dance floor, they started to dance as Heather and Carrie looked on, sipping their drinks.

One song led to another and then to another, the two showed no signs of stopping.  Heather was actually glad for the two, not that the ‘bet’ meant anything beyond just a silly bet.  Carrie on the other hand felt that she was challenged by being wrong.  So she decided to find another man to dance with to compete with Nancy.  Within moments Carrie was able to convince a gothic dressed man to dance with her.

The two girls left Heather to sit at the bar without her friends to keep her company.  Heather wasn’t upset that Carrie and Nancy were off doing their own thing but had the problem that she wasn’t a part of it.  Sighing, Heather lend back onto the bar with her drink in her hand.

“Seems like your friends have left you for the dance floor Miss,” said a male voice.

Looking to her left she saw a handsome young man sitting next to her.  His eyes were green and hair brown.  His pale skin accented his small but athletic frame.   Looking at him she felt an instinctive attraction to him, like he was pulling her heart and desire fully towards him.  Her heart started to thump a little faster and her breathing became slightly heavier, she felt a vibrant twinge to the surrounding air.

“Excuse Miss, are you ok?” asked the man.

Shaking herself out of the trance, Heather said, “Yeah… Yes I am.  I’m sorry.  Who are you?  You look familiar from somewhere.”

“Excuse me, Where are my manners?  My name is Nathaniel.  And you are?” said Nathaniel, holding out his hand.

“Hello, my name is Heather,” responded Heather as she shook his hand and gave him a girlish smile.

“Your friends seem to be having a good time.  Why are over by your lone self?” said Nathaniel.

“Excuse me?” said Heather, slightly insulted.

“I don’t mean to be rude.  I was just curious on why a beautiful woman like you wouldn’t be out there on the dance floor with her friends living it up,” said Nathaniel.

Smiling deviously, Heather said, “Your pick-up lines need a little work Mister.  But you are cute, so I’ll let you talk.”

“Well, I guess my one liners have done their job by breaking the ice now didn’t they,” said Nathaniel.

Laughing, Heather said, “I guess they did.”  Taking another sip of her drink, Heather noticed that her vodka & tonic was out.  Giving a childish, ‘I want another one’ look she placed the glass cup down on the bar roughly.

“Let me get another.  Bartender, could you please get my friend here another drink,” stated Nathaniel.

“Sure thing Nat. What’s she havin’,” responded the bartender.

“Grey Goose and tonic on the rocks please,” said Heather.

Comin’ up young lady,” said the bartender.

“Thanks Nathaniel,” said Heather.

“Don’t mention it,” said Nathaniel.

A moment later the bartender slid the drink down to Heather.  Catching it, Heather brought the drink up to her mouth and took a good sized drink of it.

“Thirsty are we,” said Nathaniel.

“You have no idea,” said Heather.

“Look at me,” said Nathaniel.

“What,” said Heather, a little confused.

“Look at me.  I want to see your beautiful eyes,” said Nathaniel.

Heather looked at the man directly in the eyes.  His green eyes seemed to be so alluring that Heather felt that she couldn’t pull away.  His eyes deepened with each passing second.  Heather felt her natural attraction to this man start to take over, enough so that everything around her started to fade away.  Soon, her surroundings disappeared.  Nathaniel seemed to only exist.  His eyes, so captivating and enthralling they could be looked at for days.  Abruptly, her eye sight started to blacken.  Nathaniel’s eyes faded away quickly into darkness.  Seconds later her eye sight blackened completely and Heather lost consciousness.

What seemed like only a second, Heather opened her eyes.  Only she wasn’t in the club but lying down on a soft bed of twigs.  Looking around she noticed that she was in a forest setting, which forest she did not know.  The moon shone through the forest with an ethereal glow, but with lit the immediate area well enough for Heather to see what was around her.

“Ah, you’re awake Heather,” said Nathaniel.

Looking up to her right, Heather saw Nathaniel sitting on a log not even four feet from her.  “What am I doing here?  Who are you really?”

“I’m Nathaniel, like I said to you in the club earlier tonight.  I just didn’t tell you that I’m a vampire and that I choose you to be my fledgling and heir.  You will become Vampire tonight Heather,” said Nathaniel.

Before Heather could respond, physically or verbally, Nathaniel was upon her.  Sinking his teeth into her neck, Nathaniel started to drain Heather of her blood.  Heather felt a heightened sense of sensuality towards Nathaniel as he drained her of blood; she felt her sexual needs heighten as he continued to drain her.  Yet she felt her strength being taken away from her, seconds later she felt like she was completely drained and her life essence was about to be extinguished.  That is when Nathaniel pulled away from Heather.  Heather felt like she was on the verge of death and her breathing was labored and deep.

“Heather, right now I give you a choice, a choice that was forced upon me.  But I give it to you nonetheless.  You are at death’s door and I want to ask you, do you want to live?  Would you live forever to make people lives around you better?  Would you forsake the sun for millennia just to make other’s lives what you want your life to be?  Tell me now or die,” said Nathaniel.

Taking a much labored deep breath, Heather said, “Yes.  I want to help change lives.  I want to live long enough to see people make a change in their lives.  I want to see them change.  I want you to give me that life.”

“Good, now drink from me.  Take my essence into you,’ said Nathaniel as he cut he left wrist with a pocket knife, letting his blood flow from his wrist he put it to Heather’s mouth.  ‘Now drink and your dreams will come true.”

Heather took Nathaniel’s wrist and started to suck the blood from his wounded wrist.  It tasted like Rose flowers and lemony citrus combined.  The desire to take in his blood grew and she continued to suck his blood into her mouth.

Nathaniel started to feel weak as Heather continued to suck his blood into her system.  “Let go, Heather.  It is time to let go of my wrist.  You have had enough.”

Heather, in her bloodlust ignored Nathaniel’s request and continued to suck the blood out of him.

“Heather stop, you don’t need so much blood,” said Nathaniel as he forcefully pulled away from Heather.

Heather fell backwards and landed on the forest ground as she felt her body start to react to the venomous vampire blood.  She arched her back into the air as the vampire blood had its way with her human blood.  Heather screamed in pain and sensuality as the blood over took her human blood.  Several moments later Heather felt the overwhelming feeling subside.  Heather blacked out for a moment.  When she opened her eyes, her eye sight was different, it made things clearer, more distinct.  The closest bed bug seemed to be clearly seen by Heather’s new eyes.   She had a certain thirst that she couldn’t explain and knowing it wasn’t for human food, Heather wonder exactly it was for.

“What happened to me?  What is this craving I am having Nathaniel,’ said Heather, as she stood up from the forest floor.  ‘Am I addicted to human blood now? Am I a Freak now?”
