Literature Text

A mother and her young son lived together in a pretty big 4 bedroom 2.5 bath house.  They had always been a good family unit up until the mother's husband died several years ago by a drunk driver running a red light.  Since then the mother and son had struggled to keep the house and to keep themselves as a family unit.  The mother, a highly successful Gynecologist, still depended on her husband's income to have more than enough income.

Now that he was gone it did make it hard for her to keep the housing and her son in good schools; a constant worry for her.  Furthermore, her friends have been trying to set her up with people that they thought she would be good with.  Not to keen on going out on dates, she used the excuse that her son was too young for her to date.  But he was now starting to hit those early teen years and was able to take care of himself, so that excuse was no longer valid.  So finally she decided to take up one of those offers to go on a blind date.

It took her nearly two hours to choose what she wanted to wear and how to present herself.  But she finally was ready for the big date tonight.  Nervously, she walked down the stairs and into the Foyer.

Click-Clank, Click-Click, Click-Clack went a pair of sleek black high heels across the wooden floor.  The owner of those shoes walked in them with long, strong legs that flowed up to a tight black strapless jersey dress.  Click-Clank; obviously an athletically strong woman the maple brown haired woman walked over to the mirror in the foyer.  Looking into the mirror, a soft almond shaped face looked back at the woman.

The house was a nice middle to upper class house in a realitively safe neighborhood.  It was a house built for a family and seemingly too big of a house for just two people.  Primping her hair and checking her make-up once over she called out, "Sweetie, I have a big date tonight and I trust you to look after everything here at the house".

Her 12 year old son, named Kyle, walked into the foyer from the family room and responds, "Yes mother.  Everything is under control.  Now just go will you!"

Smiling, she bent over pulled her son's cheek to her lips and gave her son a quick kiss on the cheek, leaving a bright red kiss on her son's cheek, and rushed out the front door.

She was in a nervous rush to get to the restaurant since this was her first date since her husband died in the car wreck several years ago.  Since then all she had time for was work and her son.  Now that he was old enough to be trusted by himself she thought it was about time she dated someone and moved on from the pain of losing a husband she dearly loved.

30 minutes later she was at the restaurant where she was going to meet her blind date.  Parking was seemingly a little too easy, although it was a Tuesday night.  Getting out of the car she locked it and walked inside.  Figuring that they would be meeting up at the bar she walked past the host and into the bar area.  Looking around she noticed that the bar was relatively slow.  Looking towards the other end of the bar she saw her date, she knew it was him from the picture that the friend gave her who set up the date.

Walking over to him she spoke and asked, "Hello.  Are you Tim?"

Looking up from the book that he was reading he gave her a smile and responded, "Yes I am.  You must be Arianrhod.   Please sit down".

"Thank you," Arianrhod responded and sat down in the seat next to Tim.

"I looked up your name.  I noticed that you were named for the Goddess of fertility, rebirth and the weaving of cosmic time and fate," said Tim as an ice-breaker.

Rolling her eyes at the one liner, she couldn't help that she had hippy like parents, Arianrod just smiled and stated, "Just call me Arian.  Most people do not get confused about my name.  So let us begin the date".

Hours past, they both interacted as people do on a first date.  They talked about work, career, and what they expected in life.  Throughout the conversation Tim did try get Arianrhod to laugh,  but the jokes where of the raunchy nature; which she did not find to amusing.  Arianrhod thought the guy was a overall nice guy but got the feeling that Tim was just looking for a one night stand.  She actually started to feel a little annoyed with his presumed childish sense of humor.  Although Arianrhod felt that this was just another prototypical date in which Tim was only really interested in getting into her pants she said to him that it was nice to meet him and that she would be in touch, a little lie she told him to save his feelings.

"This is going to be tougher than I thought," Arian said under her breath as she walked out to her car.  She truly wanted to have a man in her life but she also had a son to think about and a man who was willing to be a father was far better than a one night stand.

Getting into her car, she started the car and drove off.  Driving to just drive, Arianrhod felt like it was the appropriate thing to do.

Driving from frustration on how poorly the date went, or even from being out of the dating world for so long, or whatever the reason Arainrhod just felt like she should be driving.  Driving for what seemed hours she finally pulled into a parking space a block from the beach.  She got out and stormed to the beach.

Kicking the sand up as she walked onto the beach.  She felt frustrated and was upset that the date went so poorly.  Walking up to the water's edge she screamed, "What is needed to find a good man in this world?  Huh? Is life that hard that I can't find happiness again?!"

With that she screamed at the top of her lungs at no one in particular.  Suddenly, a wave came barreling in and engulfed her feet before it receded back into the ocean.  She reacted chillingly to the cold water.

"God, now these shoes are ruined,' Arianrhod said in frustration.  'What else can go wrong?"

A sudden pain engulfed her legs as Arianrhod fell to the ground with a thud.  Before she could actually scream out in sudden panic Arianrhod felt that her legs where pulling together.  Laying forward Arianrhod turned her head and looked back at her legs, only to see them merging together into one fleshy stump.  Her shoes popped off as the stump completed itself.  Confused and frightened, Arianrhod was able to move onto her back.  Not knowing how to react Arianrhod could only look on as she was able to sit up enough to lean back onto her elbows and forearms.

The changes continued with her once strong and athletic legs began to lengthen.  The strip that was a fleshy stump of Arianrhod's lower half finally stopped growing.  Looking at it, sitting up on her elbows, Arianrhod figured it must be at least 12 feet long.  But that was not all of the changes to her body. As her panic and fear heightened, Arianrhod noticed that at the tip of this fleshy stump there were two things that started to grow in opposite directions.  The beginnings of what looked like fleshy fins began to take shape.  They looked like an overly stretched pieces of flesh in each direction.  By the looks of it they stretched out, from tip to tip, to be about 3 feet long.

What happened to Arianrhod next made her gasp.   Scales seemed to grow, little by little, over her lower body's flesh.  Colors of sea green and bright blue seemed to be the dominate color of the scales.  Moments later the scales covered from her hips to the end of her 'tail'.  Her female parts below her hips seemed to have disappeared.

"What is going to happen to my son!?! How can he just live in the American Foster System!?!  How can I support him like this!" yelled Arianrhod.

Fearful and scared, Arianrhod screamed in fright and fainted.  Her head falling to the sand as the next wave pushed itself over her newly found body.
