Centauress Life Part 5

Galloping through the fenced fields of Dr. Robert’s farm with Jessica seemed to be the most calming thing in the world for Phillip.  He couldn’t explain it; it just felt freeing to run with the grace and power of a horse but to still have an upper body of a human to feel the breeze rush by.   Slowing down to a trot, Phillip didn’t have to wait for more than a second before Jessica caught up to him.

“You’ve quickly gotten use to four legs there Phillip,” smiled Jessica.

“Thanks to you,’ said Phillip, looking at Jessica in the eyes.  ‘I wouldn’t be getting through this craziness of Dr. Roberts without you.”

“Your flattery needs work,’ said Jessica.  ‘But I’ll take it.  You’re the only one I get to talk to since my changes a couple of months ago.  It started to get lonely here with just me and Dr. Roberts, and he has been gone fairly often.”  

“You seem to have taken a liking to all of this,’ said Phillip.  ‘You have what, a month left before everything is over and you’ll be going back to real life?”

“Yes, I have just under a moth before I get changed back.  It will help a lot with my financial situation back home.  I’ll be glad when it is over.  But at the same time I will miss being out here.  Galloping around, smelling the fresh country air.  Helping keep the farm up and clean.  I don’t really know why.  It just feels like I’m helping out in my own small way,” said Jessica.

“I don’t get that.  I still feel like a little bit of a freak walking on four legs.  I’m just glad there isn’t anyone around to see us.  If my friends saw me like this they wouldn’t let me live it down,” said Phillip.

“Come off it Phil, stop living in the future.  The now is here and when, in the rest of our lives, are we going to actually know what it is like to be a centaur.  Let alone what horses feel like,” said Jessica.

“You’ve been at this for two months,’ said Phillip.  ‘I’ve been here less than a week.  It’s still all so new to me….’

“Hey,’ called a male voice, surprising both Jessica and Phillip in mid stride.  ‘How are you two holding up out here in the exercise fields?”

Looking around for a moment, Jessica saw Dr. Roberts riding a brown mustang horse towards them from across the field.  Tapping Phillip on the shoulder she pointed out Dr. Roberts to him.  

Meeting Dr. Roberts half way, Jessica said, “We were just talking and jogging Dr. Roberts.  It’s been a really nice day so far.”

“Can’t complain too much,” said Phillip.

“Good to hear,’ said Dr. Roberts as he turned around the horse he was riding and came up, side to side, with Phillip; who was about the same height as Dr. Roberts on the horse.  Jessica’s slightly shorter and slimmer body standing next to Phillip, but not by more than several inches.  ‘Well, I have to say that Phillip.  Your test results have all come back and it looks a lot like the results I got from Jessica.  Your horse half is a very healthy male horse, as well as your human half.  Although, in your blood tests I did find that your body blood levels are that of a normal horse; meaning that your testosterone levels, blood pressure levels, and the whole nine yards indicate that they are as if you were always a full horse.  Still a little weird hearing a double heartbeat but I think that is what is helping you two become healthier and more physically fit than you were before all this happened.  Let’s get back to my house so I can finish up the last rounds off testing on your Phillip.  Do you want to join us Jessica?  I can use your help.”

“Sure thing,” said Phillip as he trotted back to the entrance of the enclosure.  

“Definitely, I wouldn’t want Phillip to feel alone in this,” said Jessica as she followed Phillip.  Dr. Roberts galloped ahead to open the gate.

Phillip and Jessica caught up to Dr. Roberts and trotted through the gate and waited for Dr. Roberts to close the gate behind him before they started off towards the house again.  

About half way back to the house Phillip said, “Dr. Roberts I have to say that I’m starting to see things differently.”

“How so Phillip?” asked Dr. Roberts.

“Well, everything seems smaller.  Things around me seem farther away from me,” said Phillip.

“Your human half has grown more.  It seems to be fitting more to your horse half than your horse half fitting to your human half.  I’ll take your measurements when we get back.  To see if anything has changed in your size,” said Dr. Roberts.  

“Ok,” said Phillip wearily, looking back at Jessica for a moment.  She smiled a soft friendly smile at him as if to say everything was alright.

The rest of the way back to the house, which was just over a mile away from the enclosed fields, was spent in silence.  Not knowing what to say or do, Phillip just continued to lead Jessica on until they made it back to the house.  

Coming up the trail to the house Phillip saw, in the driveway, a parked truck hauling what could only be a horse trailer.  Phillip stopped in panic.  Jessica, more use to her body, was able to side step Phillip’s sudden stop only to stop herself once she saw the truck with a horse trailer that was attached to it, mouth agape.  She knew the truck and trailer was not Dr. Roberts.  A second later, Dr. Roberts came trotting up on his horse and saw the truck and trailer.

“Go to your stalls,” said Dr. Roberts.

“But…,” said Jessica.

“Now!” said Dr. Roberts.  

Without further question, Jessica was able to pull Phillip out of his panicked stare and lead him to the horse stable behind the house.

Riding cautiously towards the truck Dr. Roberts said, “Who’s there?  This is my property; you are trespassing on my property.  Do I have to call the police?”

As he got closer to the truck he realized that he knew the truck and trailer.  It was his friend’s truck and horse trailer therefore that meant that he brought ‘her’ with him.  It could get interesting he thought.

From the other side of the truck and out of sight Dr. Roberts heard, “Hey-oh buddy.  I thought I would come and visit and see how everything was going.”
